A lot can change in 10 years. Our survey of case managers and coordinators in 2004/05 revealed a thirst for more education opportunities. As a result, the industry sharpened its focus on training and today there are countless offerings available.
A decade later, the introduction of Consumer Directed Care (CDC) has thrown up more questions than answers, particularly for case managers and care coordinators.
It is now time to consider case managment's role in the new world of consumer direction. The 2012 CDC Evaluation highlighted its continuing significance, stating: "The relationship with the coordinator was particularly important and valued by participants." (Evaluation of the consumer directed care initiative - Final Report, January 2012).
